We all have our own quirks when it comes to choosing the best luxury hotel. Some of us are swayed by in-house dining and spa facilities. Others are all about a world class location and breathtaking views.

Melbourne boasts some of Australia’s finest high-end accommodation. From charming boutique stays to independent eco-friendly retreats, there’s a perfect match for every traveller.

So if you're itching to pop on the complimentary gown and slippers, assess the pillow menu in great detail, and settle in for a seriously special stay, you'd better get checking out Urban List's picks of the best luxury Melbourne hotels for 2025 and beyond.

One of Melbourne's best new luxury hotel openings, the 14-storey, 191-room Hyde Melbourne Place exudes contemporary charm with carefully chosen textures, tones, and shapes, offering guests a visual feast at every turn. Each of the bespoke rooms are crafted to provide an intimate front-row view of Melbourne’s dynamic cityscape.

There are three different styles on offer: everyday stays, luxe suites, and the opulent penthouse. It’s not just the rooms and design that are part of the attraction, but also the culinary offerings. Diners can opt for one of two in-house restaurants (a third is being refurbed for a December 2025 reopening): the Mediterranean haunt Marmelo—helmed by acclaimed chef Ross Lusted—and the cosy bar and late night supper club Mr Mills. Grab a booth and a green apple and bergamot margarita and settle in.

If you’re after old-world elegance in your luxury hotel experience, nothing touches Hotel Windsor. It’s literally Australia’s only surviving grand Victorian-era hotel, the spot where the Constitution Of Australia was drafted in 1898, a proper relic of the 19th century—although relic may be a bit uncharitable when you see the opulent interior.

The Windsor underwent a significant renovation a few years back to become one of the best luxury hotels Melbourne has to offer. Today, its 180 rooms are absolutely impeccable: stately, grand, slightly OTT (fussy sleepers even get a pillow menu). It's something everyone should do at least once in their lives if only to say they’ve stayed in a little slice of Australian history.
